How to Check and Replace the Battery on the Mediana A16 AED
Maintaining your Mediana A16 AED includes regularly checking the battery to ensure your device is always ready for emergencies. Below is a guide on how to safely inspect, remove, and replace the AED battery for optimal performance.
Locating and Removing the Battery
The Mediana A16 battery is located at the bottom of the unit. To remove it:
- Locate the release clip on the side of the battery compartment.
- Pull the clip back gently to release the battery.
- Once removed, the unit will display a battery symbol with a line through it, indicating no battery is installed—this is the same symbol shown if the battery is flat.
Understanding the Battery Display and Details
On the battery itself, you'll find:
- Electrical contact points on one side for connection to the AED.
- A printed “install by” date to guide replacement.
- Serial number and other identifiers helpful for maintenance tracking.
All Mediana A16 units come with the battery pre-installed. The battery is non-rechargeable, as is typical with most AED models, and its life begins from the moment of installation.
Helpful Tip: Take a Photo for Reference
It’s advisable to take a photo of the battery, including its serial number and install date. Store this image on your phone or computer to easily reference it when ordering replacements or logging maintenance records.
Reinstalling the Battery
To replace the battery:
- Slide the battery back into the compartment, ensuring the clip aligns and locks into place.
- The AED will emit a beep and display “Unit OK” on the screen.
- Look for the full battery symbol on the status display to confirm the device is ready for use.
When to Replace the Battery
If the AED has been used in a real emergency, it’s strongly recommended to replace both the pads and the battery. This ensures the AED maintains full performance, as power is consumed during use, even if a shock is not delivered.
Keeping track of when the battery was first installed helps you manage your AED’s maintenance effectively, ensuring it remains fully functional when it matters most.
